I am a long-time software development professional, community parks advocate, and empty nest parent in Austin, Texas. Self-taught as an artist, I have been creating art pieces since late 2010 after collecting ideas over the years. Fluid, patterned imagery is a theme in most of my artwork, and much of it involves the viewer to create kinetic movement. My artwork started out as pure play and retains that spirit, and now I wish to share what I am producing in hopes of giving pleasure and a sense of wonder to viewers and sparking the creative urge in others.
Mixed Media Moire Animations
I often let my designs be stimulated by patterned or reflective materials, no more so than in these layered constructions. I produce interactive works that stimulate the eye, creating their own appearance of movement in response to the viewer's movements. I do this by placing layers of semi-obscuring patterns over patterned backdrops to create highly visually active spaces. Though these can only be properly appreciated in person -- they confuse most cameras -- this gallery of my works in this style suggests their basic form.
Acrylic Bars, Mandalas, and Miscellaneous Adventures
Some of my artistic forays have led to further development, some run their course early. If my works seem divergent in style, it is because I feel unconstrained, and I experiment freely. See my gallery of works with acrylic bar, and mixed media.
Digital Works
Three years after retirement from a lifetime of computer science, I finally admitted computers into my artistic practice. Using only a text editor and spreadsheet, I write vector specifications in the SVG file format to create these patterned images. Some pieces are 2D. Others are 3D, with a background image overlayed by another, sparse pattern printed on clear acrylic, so that moving around the piece becomes an interactive, kinetic experience.

Water Imagery
In some of my works I strive to depict some aspect of
of the movement of light on water, which is, in my opinion, the
most vibrant, accessible, and beautiful purely visual phenomenon
in our everyday world. The works themselves are but suggestions
to evoke the splendor of this imagery. Here is a
gallery of my water image works in wood and photography.

Moire Immersion at The Thinkery!
Take a dive into deep moire space in my new Moire Immersion Corridor at The Thinkery, Austin's wonderful children's museum in the Mueller Development. I created and donated ten large, internally lit, perforated metal panels for permanent installation in the second floor corridor. Geometry comes alive! (Click on any image to expand.)
